Students already possessing basic wheel throwing skills can further their abilities. Take the opportunity to investigate more intensive aspects of functional forms including making sets, multiple part pieces, working on a larger scale, and surface techniques. There will be additional focus on how to work more intentionally as a maker. As a special bonus, students in this class will have the unique option to participate in a soda firing with artist Ethan Arias! This special firing uses a modified atmosphere to make glazes and slips behave differently than a standard firing! This is a great opportunity to learn a bit more about the magic of soda firing and find out how it can jazz up your surfaces! Some extra work is expected of students who wish to participate in this firing, natural to the process, including wadding your pots, helping to load the kiln, and cleanup after the kiln is fired. But this is an excellent way to be introduced to the soda kiln and begin to learn how this unique firing method works!
Regular cone 10 studio firing will also be available.

Requirements: Have taken a 5-or-10-week Beginning Pottery class, or proficiency with basic skills on the wheel (centering, throwing small to medium forms, trimming, handles and attachments).
